Anyone else look forward to movie night because of the snacks?

My family loves watching movies together, and we always have something to nibble on while we watch the latest releases.

A recent favorite has been taco Chex mix. We love tacos, so of course it is a hit.

The classic taco seasoning is mixed into your favorite snack mix ingredients and then baked until toasty. It’s super easy to make and just as easy to make disappear.

What can I add to taco Chex mix?

I love to customize our snack mixes based on what we have on hand. Even if you don’t have enough of the traditional Chex cereal, you can make this!

Swap in your favorite cereals, like plain Cheerios or Crispix. Add cheese crackers, corn chips, or even popcorn.

We love nuts in our mixes, so choose your favorite. Cashews, peanuts, and almonds all are great in savory mixes.

Pretzels are excellent for added saltiness. Mini twists or squares are ideal, but sticks are also an option. Try the twisted sticks, which have nice crevices for the seasoning to adhere to.

What is taco seasoning?

Taco seasoning is that classic blend you might pick up at the store for your ground beef tacos.

I usually have my own taco seasoning mix on hand. It’s simple to make, and if you already have all the spices, why not?

Taco seasoning is typically a blend of chile powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Packaged mixes often have salt as the main ingredient, so if you use a packet, add your own favorite spices to balance the flavors to your liking.

Can I make taco Chex mix in the microwave?

If you don’t want to turn on the oven, this recipe can be done in the microwave.

First, be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl. Not all mixing bowls are! If you don’t have large bowls, you might need to divide the recipe into batches to fit.

Melt your butter in a small bowl, then pour it over your cereal mix. Stir in the taco seasoning to coat evenly.

Microwave on high for about 3 minutes, stirring every 60 seconds. Depending on your microwave’s wattage, you might need less time.

Spread the mix onto a rimmed baking sheet to cool completely, then store in an airtight container.

Try this taco Chex mix for your next movie night and it just might become a standard part of your snacking lineup. Or try my ranch Chex mix! Happy snacking!
