Tropical Trail Mix
Filled with dried fruits, nuts, coconut, and chocolate chips, this tropical trail mix is perfect for taking on the go.

Whenever we go on road trips, we make sure to pack plenty of snacks to help us avoid the lure of the gas station treats.
Simple snacks like Chex mix or trail mix are go-to options, because they’re easy to eat and don’t make a drippy mess in the car.
One of our favorites is this tropical trail mix: It’s full of fruit, nuts, and a bit of dark chocolate to tie all of the flavors together.
Ingredients for tropical trail mix
Full list of ingredients with quantities is located in the recipe card.
You’ll need:
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Dried pineapple
- Dried mango
- Banana chips
- Plain coconut chips or coconut flakes
- Dark chocolate chips
For the nuts, we like the roasted variety that is marked as “less salt.” You can use unsalted and unroasted if you like, but the salt is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the rest of the ingredients.
pro tip
Check out Costco for bags of nuts and dried fruit. We get big bags of cashews there for a fraction of the price our regular grocery store sells them for.
Look for the coconut chips near the dried fruits that are packaged for snacking, like dried apples. Make sure you get unflavored ones! Large coconut flakes from the baking section will also work, but it should be big pieces, not shredded coconut.
How to make this recipe
Add all of the ingredients to a large mixing bowl.
If your dried pineapple or mango is in strips instead of chunks, you’ll need to cut it into smaller pieces before adding. Because dried fruit can be sticky, a pair of sharp kitchen shears are handy here. Simply snip the fruit into bite-size pieces.
Mix all of the ingredients together. Add more fruit, nuts, or chocolate chips if you like.
Transfer to a large airtight container like a mason jar or a resealable plastic bag. This tropical trail mix will keep for a long time stored in a cool, dry place.
Recipe suggestions
One of the best things about trail mix is that it’s so easy to customize! Don’t like mango? Leave it out!
Other options for tropical trail mix include macadamia nuts, dried papaya, sunflower seeds, or pistachios.
The chocolate chips can be swapped for yogurt-coated raisins, or simply left out.
Whether you need a snack for getting through the work day, making it the last mile on your hike, or fueling the next road trip, this tropical trail mix fits the bill!
