Dipping Sauce

Creamy and tangy dipping sauce is perfect for an endless variety of snacks! It mixes together in minutes for a homemade sauce you’ll love.

Ketchup and mustard have long been sauce staples, but when it comes to happy hour snacks and appetizers, sometimes you want something a little bit more.

This homemade dipping sauce is one of my favorites for serving with finger foods. It’s equally delicious with chicken nuggets as it is with french fries!

You likely already have everything you need to make this sauce. That’s one thing I love about it — you’re taking a few staples and instantly elevating them!

It’s ready in minutes, so you can serve it up any time. You might never go back to ketchup and mustard!

Ingredients for homemade dipping sauce

Here are the sauce ingredients:

Mayonnaise – Use your favorite mayonnaise. Both regular and light versions will work for this recipe.

I do not recommend mayo alternative salad dressings.

Honey – Wildflower honey can often be strong in flavor, so I suggest using a mild clover honey. This is the kind most commonly sold in stores.

Dijon mustard – For tang, I add a little dijon mustard.

Barbecue sauce – Choose your favorite BBQ sauce, from sweet to spicy. I like ones with a little heat in this recipe to balance the sweetness from the honey.

Salt and pepper – Add seasoning to taste. The amount you need will vary based on the flavors of your mustard and barbecue sauce.

Keep in mind that the foods you’re dipping will also be seasoned, so don’t go too heavy handed!

How to make this recipe

This recipe could not be easier.

Add the mayonnaise, honey, mustard, and barbecue sauce to a bowl. Stir together the ingredients until completely smooth and blended.

Taste and add salt and pepper.

You can also adjust the amount of honey, mustard, or barbecue sauce. Remember to add a little bit at a time for balanced flavors!

Recipe suggestions

You can further customize this sauce by adding your favorite flavor boosters.

For a sauce with a kick, add in grated horseradish or a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce.

You can mix in onion powder or garlic powder, or use seasoned salt in place of regular salt.

To add more umami flavor, add a bit of Worcestershire sauce. Note that Worcestershire is not vegetarian (it contains anchovy).

Yellow mustard or stone ground mustard can be used in place of the dijon. It just depends on your preferences and what you have on hand!

What to serve with dipping sauce

The options are practically endless when it comes to how to eat this dipping sauce.

Serve it alongside pigs in a blanket or homemade soft pretzels. Use it as a dipping sauce for sweet potato fries in place of ketchup.

Spread it on your favorite burger or hot dog, especially during grilling season.

Try it with chicken strips, turkey nuggets, or onion rings. Or offer it as another option with garlic fries!

You’ll love this easy sauce recipe. It might just be your new favorite condiment!
