Mummy Hot Dogs
Great for kids and kids at heart, these mummy hot dogs are a quick and easy snack or dinner option for Halloween, or whenever you want a little spooky flair. The optional cheese makes them even better.

One thing I’ve learned as a parent is that it’s important to make sure your kids have had something satisfying to eat before they head out for trick-or-treating.
Of course, getting them to eat when they’re excited for all that future candy can be difficult, so my secret weapon is turning to easy snack dinners that are full of fun, like these mummy hot dogs.
Mummy hot dogs are basically just larger pigs in a blanket, with the simple addition of sauce eyes! Even my husband loves these, because they make him feel like a kid again (and who doesn’t love an excuse to eat hot dogs?).
They’re super easy to make, so you can have them ready to eat with plenty of time for all that candy haul madness to come!
Ingredients for mummy hot dogs
These hot dogs are truly simple, with only three ingredients! In fact, you could make them even easier by leaving out the cheese.

You’ll need:
- Hot dogs – Use standard length dogs. Any flavor or variety will work here, but I always go with classic hot dogs.
- Crescent dough – Original or butter flake work best. If you can find the Crescent Roll Dough Sheet, that is ideal because it doesn’t have the perforations the classic Crescents do.
- Cheddar cheese slices – Optional, but we like to add a bit of cheese to each. You’ll only need two slices for this recipe. Note that the cheese does melt out the sides a little, so if you want perfect-looking mummies, skip the cheese.
How to make this recipe
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
Unroll your crescent dough onto a cutting board so it lays flat. Press the seams together with your fingers to seal as best you can.

Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into at least 16 thin strips.
Cut the cheese slices into 4 strips each.
Place 1 cheese strip along 1 hotdog. Wrap a strip of dough around the hot dog and cheese, stretching gently so the dough can wrap more. Add another strip of dough and wrap in the opposite direction, overlapping to create a mummy look. Leave some space at the top for eyes.
pro tip
If your crescent dough is a little older, it might tear more as you wrap the pieces. Don’t worry too much about this; simply use the smaller pieces to fill in any gaps on the mummy, pressing them to other pieces to adhere.
Place the wrapped mummies on a baking sheet and repeat until all the dough and hot dogs are used.

Bake for 13-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.
Let cool slightly, then add eyes to the mummies using ketchup, mustard, or (our favorite) sriracha. Serve with more sauce for dipping.

Storage tips
Mummy hot dogs keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They won’t be as flaky when reheating, but they’re just as delicious!
Store in an airtight container, and reheat in the microwave for about 30 seconds, or until heated through.

Your kids will love these mummy hotdogs for Halloween, especially when paired with Halloween trail mix and Halloween cookies!
